Poultry / Livestock

Here is our Spring 2026 Orchards Feed Store Master list of all poultry coming in this season.

Dates and varieties of these wonderful fluffy bundles of Joy will be in date order below. Make Sure you check out our Bantam Weeks - We are getting many more varieties after last years success - Bantams are such a great addition to everyone's flock, and some of my Bantams are the best layers I have!

There is a couple of things we want to make sure everyone understands going into our upcoming chick days. Here is my List:

1. We keep our chicks when they arrive for a minimum of 3-5 days before we sell them. We do this to ensure that they are healthy, eating well and are actively drinking their electrolyte and probiotic water. We will not sell them early, you can offer as much money as you want, but we will not compromise on this. When we started this process, the year before last, we saw huge differences in the health and viability of all the chicks and our losses dropped to close to zero.

2. Unless a chicken breed is listed below as "Straight Run" it is considered to be a sexed female. There is still a chance that there is a mistake when they are sorted at the hatchery and that is a risk that is taken on when purchasing them. We do have a Rooster waiting list going year round so if you do end up with a rooster we can place them on a list to find a good home.

3. Game birds will never be sexed and will be straight run, this includes, Chukars, Turkeys, Quail, Guinea Hens, Pheasants.

4. We have changed completely over to our new Hatchery that we work with who has consistently given us great birds and a way better percentage of correct sexing. They do not have as many of the breeds that some of the other hatcheries had, but we had way too many mistakes with sexing and higher mortality with those hatcheries so we are sticking with this Family Owned Hatchery.

5. We will not hold chicks, or do pre-orders and all will be available at 8am the Saturday morning of the date listed. First come first serve. Those of you from last year know that lines formed prior to opening but we were fast and efficient and were able to get everyone in and out very quickly.

6. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone last year and supported us. We know we don't have all the bins of local stores filled with tons of chicks, but we strive to sell healthy ones from a source we trust. We do our part to get them started early and ready for their trip home to their new flock. We appreciate you all so much!

Aquilla - Aquila chickens are a beautiful, productive dual-purpose, bred from a cross of a Black Australorp and Rhode Island Red. They have a high egg production at 250-280 large brown eggs a year. Known for being calm, friendly, hardy, and having a striking black plumage with an iridescent shimmer of purple & green as an adult.

Mocha Marrans - This breed is also known as Novogen’s Color Chocolate and was developed to have dark chocolate brown eggs. The Mocha Maran is a cross between Novogen’s bloodline of Rhode Island Red hen and their French Black Copper Maran rooster. This combination creates a beautiful bird with rustic or reddish-brown tones paired with a darker brown to black body. They are known to adapt well to all living environments. Chicks are able to be color sexed, guaranteeing near 100% gender accuracy. Due to the cross some may develop feathered legs while others will not.. If you’re looking to impress with a colorful egg basket, the Maran is a must have staple for any backyard.

Rhode Island Red - Rhode Island may be America’s smallest state, but the breed developed there in the late 1800s made huge changes in chicken husbandry. The Rhode Island Red’s amazing ability to lay about 265 eggs a year made it famous worldwide and became the parent of several modern hybrid egg layers. These glossy mahogany-colored hens with black tail feathers are as beautiful as they are gentle and productive. Purpose: Egg Layer Production: 265 Large Brown Eggs/Year Temperament: Exuberant, Curious, Friendly Mature Weight: 6-7 lbs. Hardiness: Cold and Heat Hardy.

Barred Plymouth Rock - One of America’s most popular chickens as well as one of our best brown egg layers, the Barred Rock is a calm, docile, friendly breed. They are cold hardy and heat tolerant. They do well in confinement or free range and can be somewhat broody. They make excellent community flock birds.

Black Sexl Link - Black Sex Links are in the top 5 best brown egg layers. They are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. They are active, gentle birds that are all temperature weather hardy. Able to adapt to all living environments they are good in confinement or free range with good foraging capabilities. Hens can either be solid black or have varying degrees of red/brown bleed through in their neck. Chicks are color sexed meaning that at a day-old gender can be determined with almost 100% accuracy. Male chicks are very similar to a Barred Rock being black and also inheriting the white dot or splotch on their head, sometimes with brown in the face. Female chicks are either solid black or have red/brown in their face as well.
